COVENTRY University group’s national institute of teaching and education hope to launch ‘one-stop shop’ for teacher training.

Current and aspiring teachers could soon benefit from enhanced career opportunities, thanks to a new collaboration between the National Institute of Teaching and Education (NITE) and Leadership Learning Securing Excellence (LLSE).

The collaboration is designed to address the pressing issue of teacher recruitment and retention in England, where in 2023, recruitment fell 16,500 short of the Department for Education’s target.

This partnership aims to create a comprehensive ‘one-stop shop’ for teacher qualifications, spanning from teacher training to national professional qualifications, coaching, and master’s programme’s specialising in special educational needs and disabilities.

The teacher shortage is exacerbated by high attrition rates, often due to a lack of opportunities, capacity, and funding for effective continuing professional development.

By streamlining the progression from initial training to advanced qualifications, NITE and LLSE hope to provide a seamless pathway that supports teachers throughout their careers.

A number of schools across England are now being offered the opportunity to benefit from training qualifications through this single provider.

Geraint Jones, Chief Executive Officer and Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor of NITE said: “We hope teachers and school leaders in the UK and abroad could benefit from an increased suite of training, education degrees and professional development both online and in-person.

“It is envisaged that these will include Initial Teacher Training, Master’s programmes and the full range of NPQ courses.”

Kate Wilson, Executive Director at LLSE said: “The Department for Education has confirmed that funding remains available for NPQ cohorts launching this October – if eligible we strongly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity for you and your school.”
