Coventry University student making big waves in business challenge

Coventry Editorial 23rd Nov, 2022   0

COVENTRY University student Kia Sandhu has been named the first-ever winner of the Severn Trent Wavemaker challenge, which asks participants to find a solution to some of the biggest issues facing the water industry.

The competition has been designed to develop talented youngsters within the community and was open to anyone aged 16 or over who lives in the Severn Trent area.

For this challenge, those taking part were asked to develop something that would help improve water efficiency in the home.

Kia took the title for her ‘Bath 2 Bog’ idea, which sends water from the shower drain that would otherwise go into the sewer to be reused to flush the toilet.

Wavemakers contestants attended a one-day boot camp to develop their entrepreneurial skills such as building their personal brand and running a business before testing out their skills in the challenge.

Winners can choose from a free university course or a £2,000 cash prize to assist them with their development.

Kia said: “The skills that I’ve learned and developed as part of Wavemakers will be really helpful as I complete my university course and start to think about my career.

“How we use water at home wasn’t something I’d really thought about before, but with climate change and population growth putting pressure on supplies, we all must think about how we can save water and use it more efficiently.”
