Coventry woman breaks Guinness World Record for Learning Disability Week

Coventry Editorial 19th Jun, 2023   0

A COVENTRY woman with Down’s syndrome has set the Guinness World Records title for the most celebrity birthdays identified in three minutes.

Heidi Crowter recalled 70 celebrity birthdays including Queen Victoria, Margaret Thatcher, Brad Pitt and Shakira.

The announcement of Heidi’s remarkable achievement comes on Learning Disability Week, which starts today (June 19) and lasts until Sunday, June 25.

As well as honing her impressive memory skills, the 27-year-old is a passionate disability rights campaigner.

Heidi’s record was achieved as part of the Guinness World Records’ new impairments scheme, which was developed alongside the learning disability charity Mencap.

The scheme allows reasonable adjustments to be made for record attempts to better include people with a learning disability.

Currently, 1.5million people in the UK have a learning disability.

Heidi is a Mencap myth buster, a team of ambassadors tasked with showing the world what having a learning disability means today.

Other myth busters include athletes, activists, business owners, actors, a model, a dancer, and a football coach.

This week aims to challenge misconceptions about life with a learning disability, with people across the country aiming to follow the ‘myth busters’ lead and showcase their talents.

Heidi said: “I am feeling very proud of myself for achieving a Guinness World Record.

“I love sharing my joy of birthdays with people, and I have been writing a birthday list and practising a lot; everyone knows that practice makes perfect.

“Achieving a Guinness World Record means I can do anything I set my mind to.

“I am proud to be a Mencap Myth Buster and keep challenging perceptions about what I can achieve.”

Mencap’s CEO, Edel Harris OBE, added: “People with a learning disability just like the wider population have a range of amazing skills and talents.

“It is crucial to provide a platform for people with a learning disability to not only provide equal opportunities but also bust myths about what people can and can’t do.

“We’re so proud of Heidi for paving the way and taking on the amazing challenge of setting a Guinness World Record.”
