WOMEN and children in Coventry and Warwickshire are set benefit from a donation made by the Ladies Auxiliary Society of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Transfiguration.
Thanks to a £750 from the Auxiliary Society to the University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW) Charity, the Coventry & Warwickshire Breast Cancer Unit Appeal and the Children’s Emergency Department at University Hospital will benefit from a much needed cash injection.
The Auxiliary Society has fourteen members who fundraise for local charities, the community as well as for their own church – which welcome as many as 120 families to worship each week.
Xanthi Maoudis, President of the Society, said: “We hold an annual luncheon after morning service where we ask people to make a donation to our chosen charity.
“Even people that could not attend were kind enough to make a donation.
“Choosing such local causes gives our members the opportunity to say thank you for the excellent care that they and their family have received at University Hospital.”
The money will go towards the UHCW Charity’s £40,000 refurbishment of the entrance to the Children’s Emergency Department less scary to children and their families, and will also be added to the £400,000 appeal to fund a new Breast Screening Unit in Coventry City Centre.
Welcoming the donations, Melanie Shiel, Fundraising Officer at UHCW Charity said: “We are delighted that the society chose to support our two appeals.
“This fantastic donation will take us a step close to reaching our targets.”
