Coventry youngsters learn about Fairtrade in Co-op visit

Coventry Editorial 17th Apr, 2023   0

YOUNGSTERS from St John Fisher Catholic Primary School learned about Fairtrade during a recent visit to the Heart of England Co-ops Alfall Road store.

Year five pupils were split into different groups and each examined various Fairtrade products before taking part in a special challenge.

A booklet was prepared for them which contained several exercises and questions to test them on what they had learnt during their visit.

Fairtrade Fortnight happens annually and helps raise awareness of ethically sourced goods to help food producers in poorer countries.

Fairtrade farmers do not make much of a negative impact on the environment, yet are often the first to suffer through climate change due to the devastating impact on their crops.

Youngsters learned how buying Fairtrade goods supported workers and producers in countries across the world to ensure they had a fair wage and good working conditions.

St John Fisher Schools vice-principal Pauline Finn said the Co-Op visit proved extremely worthwhile.
