Coventry youngsters not in jobs or education at all-time low

THE NUMBER of NEETS – 16 to 17-year-olds not in education, employment or training – in Coventry is at an all-time low.

The latest statistics show the figure for the city to be at just 3.5 per cent.

This is not only an improvement on the previous five years but also puts Coventry below (and better than) both the national and West Midlands’ averages.

It is great news for the city and Prospects, which is part of the Shaw Trust and carries out the work on behalf of the city council.

The organisation undertakes robust tracking of young people’s progress and has forged impressive partnerships with schools, colleges and training providers in the city.

The figure also demonstrates the excellent careers education, advice and guidance provided by secondary schools, colleges and training providers in Coventry.

Coun Dr Kindy Sandhu, Coventry City Council’s cabinet member for education and skills, said: “I’m overjoyed to hear about this wonderful news.

“It’s fantastic for our city and is testament to all the hard work from the partners involved.

“The figures also show the excellent range of education provision in Coventry, which enables our young people to engage in successful opportunities and positive destinations.”
