COVENTRY Youth Council members met earlier this month to discuss some of the biggest issues that impact young people in the city.

The group meet monthly with their aim being for young people to talk to those who make decisions in Coventry and bring about positive changes.

The council invited members of Positive Youth Foundation to join them in the council chamber, where they discussed the One Coventry Plan.

The plan outlines Coventry City Council’s vision and aims between now and 2030, as well as how they will work with partners and communities to achieve its priorities.

The group also looked into the Child-Friendly Coventry scheme, which aims to create an environment where young people are valued, supported, safe and healthy.

The youth council are aged 11 to 21 and work with organisations such as the NHS, Coventry and Warwick universities and West Midlands Police.

Deputy cabinet member for children and young people, Coun Becky Gittins, said: “The time and effort put in by these young people make a real difference to how we move forward and how issues important to young people can be tackled.

“A fresh outlook from the youth of the city can inspire and help the city promote things that are important to them.”
