A COVENTRY community champion has won a special award from Dr Oetker for the positive impact she has on her area.

In the run-up to the King’s Coronation and the Big Help Out – which aims to inspire volunteering – the baking product company held a competition.

Anna-Marie Corbett, who was awarded the ‘Community Crown’, runs the charity Prom Bank, which aims to help anyone in the local area who cannot afford to go to their school prom. She helps ensure they have the chance to enjoy themselves just like everyone else by donating  a prom dress to them.

This year alone she has helped over 50 youngsters go to their prom and collected over 450 prom dresses from a number of amazing people who have kindly donated them.

On top of this, Anna-Marie also runs a uniform bank, which supplies free preloved school uniforms to anyone who needs them.

Having been a single parent for 18 years, Anna-Marie knows first-hand how difficult it can be to manage, so making things easier for people who are struggling is incredibly rewarding.

Anna-Marie was nominated for the prize in recognition of her hard work and volunteering efforts to help others.

Not only will Anna-Marie receive a charity donation from Dr Oetker, which will be donated to The Canley Community Centre, Anna-Marie also received a Coronation hamper full of party decorations and baking goodies from Dr. Oetker’s new Great British range.

This will enable Anna-Marie and her local community to celebrate the crowning of King Charles III in style.

Anna-Marie is also set to receive a personalised thank you message from Great British Bake Off finalist Sandro Farmhouse.

A true jewel in the community, he is an ambassador for the National Autistic Society and the creator of a voluntary kids project ‘Beyond the Cakes’, where he offers baking lessons for people on the autism spectrum.

Anna-Marie said: “I am incredibly humbled to have won this prize and grateful to Dr Oetker for their generosity.

“The donation will be going to The Canley Community Centre and will have a huge impact on our efforts to provide prom dresses and uniforms for those who need support.

“At a time where so many are feeling the pinch financially, it’s more important than ever to give what we can to others, as even the smallest contribution can have a big impact.”

Amy Beresford, Senior Brand Manager at Dr Oetker, said: “We know that when it comes to supporting your local community, a little makes a big difference, which is why we are delighted to gift Anna-Marie with this donation in celebration of local heroes.

“The work Anna-Marie does in her community, and many others across the country, is so important and what better time than His Majesty The King’s Coronation to celebrate these people, at a time when the whole country will be brought together.”
