COVENTRY’s Bands in the Park 2017 season is set to get under way this weekend – and offers something for everyone for free.

The series of events starts at 2pm on Saturday when the City of Coventry Brass perform near to the visitor centre in the War Memorial Park.

Council organisers say: “This is the first in a series of events running throughout the summer in many of the city’s beautiful parks and open spaces – and best of all they are free,

“We have a great variety of music on offer for your enjoyment from marching bands, brass, jazz, rock n roll, swing and big band.

“All events take place from 2pm to 3.30pm and all are FREE.

“Sit and enjoy listening on a lazy summer’s afternoon or get up and have a dance with fellow music lovers.”

Karen Aspin, events project manager at Coventry City Council, said: “Once again we are set to have some fantastic local talent performing in our lovely parks.

“There will be a great mix of music on most Sunday afternoons throughout the summer and I am sure the events will be as popular as always.

“We just need a bit of sunshine so people can bring a picnic and enjoy the music and of course the great surroundings that our parks have to offer.”

There are 10 events in the series this year, on Sundays after this weekend’s event, until the final event which takes place in conjunction with the Heritage Open Days in Caludon Park on September 10.
