OVER 100 people gathered at the Ben Centre earlier this month to celebrate 25 years of the organisation helping people with dementia in Coventry.

Guests travelled from as far away as Scotland for the celebration, which saw Coventry Lord Mayor Coun Jaswant Singh Birdi give a speech and cut the celebratory cake.

Coventry’s ‘neurodiverse supergroup’, The Notables provided the musical entertainment while there was also a tombola, raffle, cake stand and games.

And there was also a classic car show for guests to enjoy.

The Ben Centre supports people aged 55 and over, many of whom have dementia.

It provides members and their carers who are isolated and lonely with respite and advice on how to access support.

Those who use the service are collected from their homes and taken to the centre to enjoy activities tailored to their own interests.

Ben Centre manager Manjeet Stone said: “We couldn’t believe how many people joined us to celebrate our 25th birthday.

“It’s difficult living with dementia and it’s hard work being a carer and our amazing team really does help families rebuild and reconnect.

“We provide a lot of emotional support as well as practical help and the fact that we are still going strong over 25 years later just goes to show that there is a real need in for this specialised help.”
