STAFF and students at Coventry’s Blue Coat School are celebrating after receiving the Lord Mayor’s Peace and Reconciliation award.
The Lord Mayor and Mayoress, Coun John McNicholas and his wife June, visited the school, along with other dignitaries, including Lady Godiva – Pru Porretta MBE and Manjit Kaur from the Coventry Peace Committee and Jennifer Jenkins representing the diocese.
During the presentation, students from across the school performed drama, read poetry and showcased artwork which symbolised the theme of peace and reconciliation.
Assistant headteacher Mrs Hathaway said: “Blue Coat has a long-standing reputation of showing a commitment towards fostering peace and living out its school vision and values and this award symbolises a nurturing ethos of peace.”
Headteacher Mrs Shelley added: “We were so pleased to welcome and have with us the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress to present us with such a significant award.
“Blue Coat is a special place to grow and flourish providing opportunities to build on our sense of identity and at community at all levels.”
