THE ANNUAL “Dame Goodyver’s Daye” feast will be going ahead as planned in Coventry City Centre this Friday but will pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

People will be gathering at the Lady Godiva statue ready for the free events 11am start, which will see a procession to Priory gardens.

The day will feature the Godiva sisters and their community groups from across the Commonwealth.

It will also feature over 150 children from 17 different schools across Coventry and faith leaders from the city.

A huge Phoenix and giant puppet elephant will be on display and there will also be live music and dancing celebrating Coventry’s heritage and culture.

There will be live drumming and 50 colourful handmade textured banners.

At 11.15am, there will be an opening speech followed by two minutes of silence.

There will then be the laying of flowers, children’s performances, prayers and blessings of food before the event closes at 12.30pm.

Coventry’s official Lady Godiva, Pru Porretta, said: “Everyone here at Godiva Trust and across all the Godiva Sisters Network, has been deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“After last year’s triumphant event, we’re looking to make 2022 another superlative year.”

“New communities from war-torn countries and a higher profile means we are in a stronger position than ever before to celebrate peace in Coventry known worldwide as the city of peace and reconciliation, with our wonderfully diverse local heritage.

“We also want to encourage local communities to engage with each other and see how it’s ok to be different but ultimately want the same for each other, this is what makes Coventry unique.”
