An immersive Halloween experience is coming back to Coventry – and is not for the faint-hearted.

Vortex Creates, in partnership with the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, is presenting Nightmares and Nibbles which combines food, theatre and atmosphere at the city’s medieval Old Grammar School.

The venue will be turned into Frankenstein’s laboratory on October 26, 27 and 31 with a range of creepy curiosities and historic taxidermy fresh from the Herbert’s collection to set the scene for the experience.

Actors will step into the roles of Dr Frankenstein and lab assistants ready to welcome guests to the unveiling of the new secret laboratory.

The buffet and cocktail experience is being prepared by Miss Ellie’s Homemade – a Coventry-based artisan food producer – and, despite its appearance, will all be vegan.

It is the second year running that Vortex has presented the event which is for over-18s and is priced at £25 including a large glass of wine and food.

Nicola Richardson, of Vortex Creates – which is celebrating its tenth anniversary, said it was exciting to see Nightmares and Nibbles return.

She said: “We had such great feedback last year that we wanted to bring it back this Halloween.

“It’s a fully immersive experience that is set in Dr Frankenstein’s new laboratory and, the story goes, gives guests the chance to explore the properties of the human body and soul, creating miracle cures for those daring to try a selection of tasty, yet gruesome delights.

“The items from the Herbert’s collection all add to the atmosphere and our actors help to bring the evening to life.

“It’s not for the faint-hearted but for those looking for a bit more excitement this Halloween, we’d urge them to book now.”

On Sunday, October 28, the venue will be turned into a cinema showing Suspiria and The Love Witch.

Ruark Jon-Stevens, of Culture Coventry – which operates the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum and the Old Grammar School, said: “It’s great to have an exciting, immersive experience in the city this Halloween.

“It was really popular last year and it looks like it is going to be even more thrilling this time.” To book online go to www.nightmareandnibbles.co.uk
