Coventry's Harry Potter 'Griffin-paws' looking for magical home

Coventry Editorial 16th Jun, 2023   0

THREE kittens which have ended up at the Coventry and District RSPCA after being discovered in a Harry Potter-themed carrier bag have been named Harry, Ron and Hermione, writes Poppy Chambers.

The young black and white cats were only a few weeks old when the charity was contacted about them being dumped.

They were found on Somerset Road, Handsworth, Birmingham around 5pm on May 22.

The RSPCA Coventry and District team have transformed an isolation unit in the cattery into ‘Mogwarts’ for the three little Griffin-paws.

RSPCA inspecor Jonny Wood said: “Thankfully these little guys were found and have been given the care and attention they deserve but we’re pleading with people not to dump their pets – it’s never the answer.”

He added help and support was available to those who were experiencing financial difficulties at the moment, and contact with vets, local rescues and animal welfare charities was important for those unable to care for their pet properly.

The Coventry and District Branch is fund-raising to pay for the care of the kittens and is encouraging people to donate to the cause.

The number of kittens and cats coming into the charity’s care has increased over the past few years and the RSPCA is highlighting the importance of neutering – particularly during kitten season (typically peaking between April and September).

This procedure is advised from as early as four months old, and can help to tackle the rising issue.

The charity has also appealed for anyone with information on how the kittens came to be dumped where they were found to call the RSPCA’s appeal line on 0300 123 80818.
