Coventry's hospital trust seeks next generation of apprentices

COVENTRY’S hospital trust is seeking the next generation of healthcare professionals to take part in its apprenticeship scheme.

The training programme at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust is now taking applications from those who wish to start a career as a healthcare support worker.

The 12 month work-based training programme, which starts in September, will see apprentices learn the wide range of skills needed to care for sick patients in hospital.

The apprentices will be supported by the Trust through day release, meaning they will be able to study for a formal qualification at the same time as working.

And, at the end of their training, they will transition into a permanent role at the Trust.

Ellie Kettell, who is eight months into her healthcare support worker apprenticeship at UHCW, said: “I’m really pleased I decided to apply for an apprenticeship at UHCW.

“I’ve learnt so much already and it’s reassuring to know that when I complete my training there will be a job waiting for me.”

The Trust currently has around 20 apprenticeship positions available at University Hospital in Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.

Marilyn Chadwick, apprenticeship advisor, said: “We’re looking for compassionate and hard-working people, who want to make a difference by caring for local people in our hospitals.

“They’ll receive world-class training and support to develop their skills and competencies over the 12 month programme.”

The Trust also offers a 15 month business and administration apprenticeship across a range of departments.

Anybody interested in an apprenticeship at UHCW should contact Marilyn Chadwick at [email protected] for more information.
