Coventry's Linear Park scoops top landscape award

COVENTRY’S new Linear Park has scooped the Community and Schools Development prize at the BALI National Landscape Awards.

The park opened in the spring and is a 700-metre environmental corridor from Belgrade Plaza which passes under the ring road to Naul’s Mill Park and connects to communities to the north.

Over 1,000 trees and saplings have been planted to help screen the park from the ring road’s impact.

It also includes a children’s play area, a climbing wall and a feature ‘Zen Arch’ structure that crosses the brook.

The park was created by regeneration specialists Complex Development Projects (CDP), working with Coventry-headquartered grounds maintenance and landscape creation firm Idverde UK which made the award application.

The regeneration has been supported by Coventry City Council and West Midlands Combined Authority which invested more than £2million in the landscaping project.

The BALI awards is the largest landscape ceremony in Europe.

Managing director of CDP, Ian Harrabin said: “The difference this urban park has made to the area speaks volumes for the design and construction of this project.

“It is already becoming a focal point for the community which was our main aim when we started the project.

“As the City of Culture moves to its legacy phase focused on Green Futures, we couldn’t have had a better start.”
