Coventry's Olympic judo star Chelsie Giles receives 'Good Citizen' award from council

THE CITY’S judo star Chelsie Giles who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics has been named as Coventry’s latest Good Citizen.

She received her award from Coventry Lord Mayor Coun John McNicholas.

Chelsie’s won Team GB’s first medal of the games in the 52kg category.

Chelsie started her sporting life as a keen swimmer, dancer and gymnast and was inspired into taking up judo after seeing her brother in his classes.




After joining Coventry Judo Club at eight she quickly rose through the ranks and then, after choosing the sport over gymnastics at 13, went on to her international and Olympic success.

The citation described her as ‘an excellent ambassador for her home city’, adding her success was inspiring other young athletes.


“She has shown what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.

“Her dedication and love for her sport justly reflect her character and she is well deserving of this Good Citizen Award.”
