COVENTRY City Council has announced a significant investment of nearly £20 million to enhance the city’s roads and pavements in the upcoming financial year.
The plans encompass over 160 projects aimed at repairing and maintaining Coventry’s infrastructure, addressing issues such as road conditions, flood protection, and road safety measures.
The funds will target the worst roads and pavements, prioritising the repair of potholes and ensuring the safety of drivers and pedestrians.
The approach is to tackle the most urgent repairs first, while also implementing measures like kerb line repairs, junction enhancements, and the installation of bollards and laybys to prolong the lifespan of road maintenance efforts.
This programme aligns with Coventry’s vision for projects such as Coventry Very Light Rail, the introduction of All-Electric buses, and the development of fully segregated cycleways to encourage active travel.
Coun Patricia Hetherton, cabinet member for city services, said: “The additional funding is a welcome boost and we will target it to help provide reliable transport routes that make it as easy as possible, especially for vulnerable for people, to continue getting out and about in their local areas.
“The programme ties in the Council’s wider aims to tackle climate change by improving traffic flow, reducing congestion and supporting the decarbonisation of the transport system.”
The approved program for 2024/25, approved by the Cabinet on March 12, is set for completion by the end of March 2025.
