Coventry's Sports Fest returns with free activities during summer holidays

COVENTRY’S annual six-day Sports Fest is returning for the summer of 2021 – during the Tokyo Olympics.

The city centre will again be transformed into a sports haven during the school summer holidays with a huge variety of free activities in Broadgate from Tuesday July 27  – Sunday August 1, 10am – 4pm daily.

A wide range of sport and wellbeing activities suitable for all ages and abilities will be led by a range of community organisations and sports clubs.

And there are opportunities for local clubs and organisations to take part delivering both sport and wellbeing activities or ‘takeover days’.

In 2019 – Coventry’s year as European City of Sport – Sports Fest attracted 14,000 people over 10 days taking part in everything from tennis and boccia with Coventry’s Young Ambassadors, to cricket with Positive Youth Foundation and parkour with Ascension Dance Company.

Coventry’s Year of Wellbeing also took place during the same year.

Coun Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “I’m thrilled to see that Sports Fest is going to be returning this year. It’s been a really tough time for everyone, so I’m keen to see events that promote health and wellbeing being organised.

“The outdoor event will be a safe environment and taking place at the end of July, we should see restrictions relaxed by then, but we will continue to monitor this.

“Sports Fest is always such a brilliant week and is perfect for the whole family to get active. The event is free and aims to promote healthy lifestyles to all residents.

“2021’s Sports Fest will be a fantastic legacy to Coventry’s year as European City of Sport and I really look forward to the event.”
