Coventry's The Yard to hold candlelit vigil remembering Brianna Ghey tomorrow

A CANDLELIT vigil will be held tomorrow to remember 16-year-old trans girl Brianna Ghey who was killed last week.

Brianna was found in Linear Park in Culcheth, Warrington, on Saturday (February 11).

A boy and girl, both aged 15, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday charged with her murder. A trial will take place from Monday, July 10.

The Yard decided to organise the vigil after being contacted by members of Coventry’s LGBTQ+ community who wanted to show solidarity with Brianna, her family and friends and the trans community.

The vigil will start at 7pm at the Yards outdoor seating area, with those attending set to observe a poignant 30-minute reflection period.

The Yard’s marketing manager Aran Nugent said the vigil will show Coventry’s love for Brianna and a determination that the city will not tolerate hate.

“We think it’s very important for people in Coventry to know the community has organised an event to remember Brianna and can come together in this difficult time.

“The vigil is important because our community and our allies want to show our love to Brianna.

“It’s important for us to shine a light on such a tragedy as well as to recognise those who continue to face adversity simply due to their identity.

“People coming together in Coventry shows our allyship and strength in numbers to face prejudice together, in the hopes of inspiring change in the systems that are failing so many in our community.”

Towns and cities across Britain have been organising and holding holding vigils to pay tribute to Brianna.
