Crash investigators call for witnesses as man left in induced coma

CRASH investigators are appealing for motorists to come forward who may have witnessed a road collision that’s left a man fighting for his life in hospital.

The man was struck by a black VW Polo at 11.30pm on Thursday (October 13) in Sky Blue Way, Coventry, near the junction with Walsgrave Road and Far Gosford Street.

The 38-year-old suffered serious leg and head injuries and has been placed in an induced coma in hospital.

A 20-year-old woman, the driver of the VW Polo, stopped at the scene and provided a negative breath test.

It is believed the collision or the moments leading up to the impact may have been witnessed by several drivers – and police are now urging them to make contact.

West Midlands Police Detective Constable Claire Byrne from the Collision Investigation Unit said: “It’s one of the busiest parts of the city.

“I’m confident several drivers may well have seen what happened and we need to speak to them.

“It may be that they didn’t stop at the time as they didn’t realise the severity of the pedestrian’s injuries.

“I need any witnesses – or anyone who saw the black VW Polo in the moments leading up to the collision – to call me as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call DC Byrne on the 101 number.
