YOUNGSTERS who were crowned winners and runners-up of the One Coventry Plan creative competitions were invited to Coventry City Council house to be handed their prizes by Lord Mayor Coun Kevin Maton.

As part of the summer holiday and back-to-school competitions, children were asked to show the council what they wanted Coventry to look and feel like in 2030 by creating a poster, drawing, poem, story or video.

There were categories for children aged six and under, seven to 11 and 12 and over, with a second competition for those aged seven and under.

Residents at Copthorne Lodge care home were tasked with picking the best entries in each category, with the winners given a £25 book voucher and the runners-up receiving a £10 voucher.

The children were accompanied by their parents for a tour of the council house, they had the chance to wear the Lord Mayor’s tricorne and robe and were given a special goody bag to take home with them.

And all of the children’s work has been put on display in the council house.

Lord Mayor Coun Kevin Maton said: “It was an honour to award these children with their prizes for taking part in our One Coventry Plan competitions.

“They are the future pioneers of our city who have each produced some fantastic ideas for how they’d like Coventry to look and feel like in 2030.

“I am very proud of all of them and think this has been a great opportunity for the younger people in our city to have their say and help us in the development of our One Coventry Plan.”
