COVENTRY firefighters have had a fantastic response to their appeal for toys for children’s hospitals.

Crews based at Coventry Fire Station are hoping to bring some much-needed cheer to youngsters who have to spend the festive season in hospital.

Among the businesses donating have been Morrisons on Holyhead Road, Tesco, Bedworth, Tesco and The Card Factory at Arena Shopping Park, Sainsbury’s in Court House Green and The Entertainer in the lower precinct.

Kind-hearted girls Kara and Millie contributed toys bought with their own Christmas money.

Firefighters tweeted: “An amazing gesture from children to help other children.

“This donation will make a massive difference.”

Crews are hoping to fill their fire engine with toys through the collection which will continue until Tuesday when the presents will be delivered.
