A CROWDFUNDER has been set up to help raise the remaining cash needed to save Spencer Park Pavilion and give it a new lease of life for the community.
Last month, the Friends of Spencer Park, which has been working for the past three years to save the decaying Edwardian pavilion, secured over £184,000 for the project from the government’s community ownership fund.
However, the Friends said despite raising funds through public sources, cash is still needed to finish the work.
So far, over £1,900 has been raised through a crowdfunding page set up on behalf of the Friends.
After ensuring the pavilion’s owners, Coventry City Council, had no plans for its future, The Friends got the authority to agree to its project to preserve the building and develop it into a centrepiece and community asset.
Its plans, published in February include revamping the interior to provide a heritage meeting space, a modern cafe, and new toilets while preserving its appearance.
The interior space would house exhibitions showcasing local heritage articles and photographs, and the work of local artists.
The cafe would be available for use by community groups and children’s parties at certain times.
