Crufts joy for Coventry schoolgirl, 10, and collie cross Jakey

IT PROVED to be a day to remember for Coventry schoolgirl Bobbie Lee after her three-year-old Border Collie Cross Jakey put his best paw forward to help her claim a prestigious prize at Crufts 2017.

Jakey was one of 22,000 happy, healthy dogs at Birmingham’s NEC for the world’s largest show on Thursday, competing alongside owner Bobbie in the Obedience competition.

Presented by the Kennel Club, this year’s Crufts marked the 126th edition of the show, which attracts dogs and owners from all over the world as well as thousands of visitors over the course of the four days.

And after enjoying their own moment in the spotlight, Bobbie, a pupil at King Henry VIII Preparatory School, could not be more delighted with Jakey’s performance after they walked away with first place.

“I feel absolutely amazed, I never expected this to happen,” said ten-year-old Bobbie.

“Now that Jakey’s won at Crufts he’s allowed to sleep on my bed every night.

“He’s already allowed in my room at night but his reward is that he can now sleep next to me every night.

“I’m a bit lost for words, this is such a great feeling and I’ll definitely be back at Crufts next year.”
