A CYCLIST has died following a crash in Binley in the early hours of Friday morning.

A 54-year-old cyclist was reportedly hit by a mini-bus at the Allard Way junction with Binley Road at around 6.25am.

The man was treated for serious injuries by medical staff but despite their best efforts he died at the scene.

The road was closed for nearly five hours whilst emergency services dealt with the collision and the driver of a blue Mercedes mini-bus was interviewed by officers.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact me or one of the team by calling 101,” said Police Constable Simon Frost, from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit.

“Specialist officers continue to liaise with the family of the cyclist and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

Anyone with information is urged to call the Collision Investigation Unit on 101. Alternatively people can leave information anonymously by calling Crimestoppers the independent charity on 0800 555 111.
