Cyrenians appeal to help Coventry's homeless over the winter months

HOMELESSNESS charity Coventry Cyrenians is appealing for donations so it can continue to help local people in need.

The charity, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, is looking to raise £12,000 through its JustGiving page to assist the homeless through the winter months, including providing housing and other support services to help people live as independently as possible.

The page has raised more than £5,400 so far, with cash donated in recent months seeing the Cyrenians welcome 125 people to Methodist Central Hall on Christmas Day for a free festive meal.

A Christmas tradition in Coventry for almost 30 years, the day also featured live entertainment for the homeless, vulnerable or lonely, while helpers also handed out warm socks, hats and gloves, toiletries and other items.

The Cyrenians provide more supported accommodation for single homeless people in the city than any other single agency.

A Cyrenians spokesperson said: “We believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home, and your support and donations through the winter season will help us to keep the people of Coventry and the surrounding areas warm and fed this winter time.”
