COVENTRY’S Coventry Very Light Rail project hit another major milestone on Friday (June 2) as its static vehicle, track and simulator were showcased at a demonstration.
The demonstration was part of a transport conference held in the city which saw local leaders, politicians and rural organisations discuss transport and innovation issues affecting the region.
The conference also included contributions from Transport for West Midlands, Skyfarer and WMG at the University of Warwick highlighting other innovative projects across the region.
Those in attendance were also able to watch demonstrations of drones and other projects.
Then over MotoFest weekend, the public was able to get on the very light rail for the first time.
The conference was hosted by Midlands Connect.
Its CEO Maria Machancoses, said: “Every year I visit and engage with hundreds of businesses and I can say, without a shadow of a doubt that Coventry is at the heart of UK transport innovation.
“From drone airports to very light rail, the skills and ingenuity being unleashed in the city will be a catalyst for economic growth.
“I firmly believe everyone in the Midlands wins from this kind of innovation, that is why we are hosting this major conference in Coventry, to share the knowledge and learning and allow other cities to thrive, like Coventry.”
