Diwali celebration event aims to bring Coventry communities together

Coventry Editorial 26th Oct, 2018   0

A DIWALI celebration is aiming to bring the whole of Coventry together.

The Diwali Bazaar in Binley is a multi-faith community event to mark the Hindu festival of light.

It will last from 1pm to 6pm on Sunday, October 28 and will take place at the Binley Banqueting Suite on Grange Avenue.

The event will be inaugurated by Lord Mayor John Blundell, the secretary of the Hindu Council UK Sanjay Jagatia and various community figures.

The event will offer fun for all the family with Indian food, clothes, jewellery and live entertainment from a host of dancers and singers.

One of the organisers Shivam Tanna said: “We strive to unite the communities within Coventry and Warwickshire in order to celebrate our diversity, and in the process help make a difference.

“In our past events we expose youth to ‘hidden cultures’ around the world and we explore ideas such as cultural identity, cultural gaps, stereotypes and perception.

“We showcase the knowledge and understanding that we may be from different cultures but we have the same compassion towards each other.”

“We hope that understanding the diversity that exists around us will be a step in the direction of making stronger societies to which everyone can belong to in the UK.”

The event is free admission and Mr Tanna hopes to hold it every year to break down division in the community.
