A NEW documentary about the lost history of Caludon Castle in Coventry is now available to watch.

‘Lords of the Manor: The Lost History of Caludon Castle’ is a 45 minute film which covers the 800 year history of the castle and manor.

Now a Grade I listed monument, the castle is a ruin with just a red sandstone wall, the former Great Chambers which remain above the existing dry moat situated in Caludon Park.

The film is based on the first book written about the castle – ‘A History of Caludon Castle – The Lords of the Manor of Caludon’ – which was written in 2014 by John Clarke OBE.

The new film, which focuses on the rise and decline in the castle’s fortunes, was written and directed by local film-maker Mark Ellis.

A key theme is how John Clarke, who was born 100 yards from the castle, made it his mission to unearth the history of Caludon, starting his lifelong research as a schoolboy at the local school which bears the name Caludon Castle.

John, who has personally funded the film documentary on Caludon, said: “We are delighted with the film which takes the viewer on a journey over more than 800 years of history, from the original wooden manor house to the present day with the Grade I listed castle monument the focal point in the award-winning enclosed park.”

Mark Ellis added: “We’re really excited to be able to share the story of the rise, fall and renaissance of Caludon Castle, and the role of John Clarke and his team in bringing it back into public consciousness.

“Anyone who has ever visited the mysterious ruin will, I’m sure, find the film fascinating. And we can now answer once and for all the question ‘Was St George really born there?’”
