ORGANISERS of a walk which will raise awareness for the Rugby and Coventry Retired Greyhound Trust are hoping to find new homes for some of their four-legged friends.
Taking place this Sunday (June 11) at Ryton Pools County Park, the walk will start at 10am and aim to connect potential owners with dogs looking for a loving home.
The walk will coincide with the Great Global Greyhound Walk, where hundreds of greyhound carers will be drumming up support to find appropriate homes for retired racers currently in care.
Zoe Spencer said: “I adopted a greyhound in January through the trust and got involved that way.
“Hopefully we can get as many people possible to join us on the walk – I’ve created a group on social media to help spread the word.
“Part of the reason why I adopted a greyhound was because of how easy they are to look after.
“My boyfriend and I work a lot, often completing opposing shifts – I’ll work in the day and he works at night.
“We are both have allergies and greyhounds are perfect as they don’t drop a lot of hair.”
The Retired Greyhound Trust cares for thousands of greyhounds each year – and since the charity was founded back in 1975, it has found homes for more than 85,000 greyhounds.
Zoe added: “The Greyhound Trust is a well supported charity and helps give a dog a life.
“Hopefully the walk will raise awareness about this wonderful charity and we have some four-legged friends coming along to the event too which is great.
“Everyone is welcome, as are all greyhounds too.
“I met my dog through a walk like this one so who knows – you may meet your future pet.”
All are welcome to join in the walk at Ryton Pools Country Park on Sunday.
