Dog tied to tree and abandoned at Coventry nature reserve

THE RSPCA is appealing for information after an emaciated dog was tied to a tree and abandoned at Baginton Fields Nature Reserve.

A concerned Coventrian found the scared crossbreed dog in the nature reserve on February 17 before contacting the RSPCA.

The dog, who has now been named Buddy, was in poor body condition and was extremely nervous when the RSPCA Coventry and District Branch took him into it’s care.

RSPCA animal rescue officer Jack Curran is looking into what happened to Buddy.

He said: “This poor dog was left abandoned in such a terrible condition. He was very underweight and had old injuries to his muzzle and left ear.

“It’s just so incredibly sad that he was abandoned like this and in such a poor condition too.

“Thankfully Buddy is doing really well at our Coventry branch and has put on weight. He’s such a lovely dog that we can’t understand why someone would so cruelly abandon him.”

RSPCA officers have dealt with 1,529 incidents of animals being abandoned in the first month of this year, a ten per cent increase on the same period in 2022.

It’s believed the cost of living crisis, coupled with the expected financial pressures on pet owners during the festive season, may have led to this increase.

Call 0300 123 8018 if you have any information on Buddy’s incident.
