A COVENTRY-based domestic abuse charity has thanked Amazon Coventry for a £1,000 donation towards its Online Chat function.

Coventry Haven Women’s Aid supports women and children impacted by domestic violence and abuse – be that physical, psychological, sexual or economical.

The donation to mark International Women’s Day last month will be used to support the charity’s Online Chat function – a lifeline through which women can subtly and safely reach out to the organisation for support.

Jaime Richards from Coventry Haven Women’s Aid said: “We would like to thank Paul and the Amazon Coventry team for this donation.

“Every donation helps ensure we are able to support women and children living with, fleeing from, or recovering from, domestic violence and abuse in Coventry.”

The charity offers refuge for women and children in safe and confidential accommodation around Coventry.

It also offers a Helpline, an online chat function, a range of services in the community and specialist projects such as FGM, Forced Marriage and Honour Based Abuse, and has an in-house language bank of more than 40 language specialisms along with an Independent Domestic Advocate service, supporting women going through civil or criminal processes.

The charity assists with legal documents, court appearances and protection orders.

Paul Roberts, site leader at Amazon in Coventry, said: “We are proud to donate to Coventry Haven Women’s Aid, a charity that does so much to support vulnerable women and children in Coventry.

“We hope this donation will offer a helping hand to the charity’s staff and volunteers and we commend them for their ongoing efforts to combat domestic violence and abuse.”

The donation was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations in the UK.

During the pandemic the online retail company is also providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than three and a half million healthy breakfasts to families around the UK.
