Donation gives Coventry schoolchildren Christmas books

Coventry Editorial 24th Dec, 2022   0

EVERY primary school child in Foleshill and Longford has received a new book this Christmas.

Over 6,000 children received the books after donations from Coventry Building Society, Capita and Business in the Community, with publisher Miles Kelly offering them at a discount.

Teachers from every school were asked to select books to match every child’s reading ability and interests, with books donated ranging from dinosaurs and history to popular tales like Aesop’s Fables and Jack and the Beanstalk.

Coventry Building Society’s senior community specialist Leanne Stanley said: “Children love to read and we’re thrilled to be able to encourage their development and learning outside school by giving every child a book to take home that fuels their interests in fascinating facts or wonderful stories.

“Every one of the 6,155 books will bring a smile to a child’s face this Christmas and we hope it will cement a life-long love of reading.”

Capita’s director of operations Dal Mahal added: “From an early age books are really important for children, I love watching children’s faces when they pick up the books as it opens up the child’s mind to a whole new world of discovery and experiences that they can live through these books.
