Dresden poet coming to Coventry tomorrow as part of twinning exchange

Coventry Editorial 3rd Apr, 2023   0

TWO cities twinned in 1959 after both suffering heavy bombing in the Second World War bombings will experience a first in their long partnership next week when a writer from Dresden will take part in an official exchange to Coventry for the first time.

There has been an existing long-standing arts exchange between the two cities with many Coventry writers, including current Poet Laureate, Emilie Lauren Jones, having visited Dresden.

Dresden poet and artist Christian Manss, arriving on Tuesday, April 4, will be the first to travel in the opposite direction as part of a new official exchange.

Christian was born in Eisenach in 1978, studied in Leipzig and lived in Zurich until 2010 when he moved to Dresden.

His latest project TWENTY includes poems, self-portraits and a theatre concert.

Christian will head to Hillz FM, speak to Coventry University students and meet members of the German Circle before performing at the ‘Fire and Dust’ open mic poetry night at Cafe Moreso at 7.30pm next Thursday, April 6.

This will be the first time some of Christian’s poems have been translated into English.
