A MEMBER of a drugs gang has been jailed for 10 years after officers discovered cocaine and heroin inside a safe house with a street value of over £500,000.

Saif Iqbal was arrested after officers from the West Midlands Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) entered a terraced house on Butlin Road in Holbrook, Coventry, on December 8.

Iqbal, 29, was inside the house alongside a woman, and officers found an open safe in the bathroom containing 1/4kg of heroin and digital scales covered in drugs residue.

An unwrapped package containing 1kg of cocaine was also on the bathroom floor.

A shopping bag next to the safe contained four more packages each containing 1kg of cocaine.

The 5kg of cocaine had a purity of 78 per cent and an estimated individual street deal value of £500,000.

Officers discovered an open safe containing drugs at a ‘Safe House’ and arrested Saif Iqbal. s

The safe, scales, packaging and cash were all seized and were indicators of organised, wholesale drug supply, with the Butlin Road property being used for the storage and distribution of class-A drugs.

Iqbal was on licence at the time after being handed a six-year eight-month jail term for conspiracy to supply class A drugs cocaine and MDA as well as cannabis.

Heroin and cocaine worth £500,000 was discovered at ‘Safe House’. s

He was jailed for 10 years after he pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs at Warwick Crown Court.

Chief Insp Leanne Lowe, Senior Investigation Manager at ROCU, said: “We’re focused on those thought to be involved in the highest levels of organised crime across our region.

“Iqbal’s conviction and sentence sends out a clear warning to others intent on supplying Class A drugs – we simply won’t tolerate it.”
