THE men arrested after climbing up Coventry Cathedral on a night out have been released without charge.

Two men, aged 25 and 36, scaled one of the 40-foot walls in the cathedral ruins and had to be rescued on Sunday (August 12).

They were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespassing after they were lowered to safety using a hydraulic platform.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS), West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) and West Midlands Police (WMP) were on the scene.

WMFS research, development, technology and innovation station manager Pete Drummond tweeted: “Not the brightest thing to be doing on a night out.

“Two adult men decided it was a good idea to scale Coventry Cathedral endangering themselves and others for a laugh.

“Many thanks to Coventry Fire, the WMAS and WMP in assisting.

“Both have been arrested for their actions. Fools.”

Coventry Police tweeted: “Huge thank you to our colleagues at WMFS and WMAS for their help returning two drunk people back to earth from the top of the cathedral ruins tonight after their late night drunken climbing spree #Team3 #MultiAgencyTeamWork #coventrycathedral #rescue.”
