TWO eagle-eyed Coventry Police officers stopped a 92-year-old woman being ripped off by suspected conmen.

PCs Amy Treadwell and Sam Rose spotted three men cutting a tree while on the beat in Kenpas Highway.

They stopped to enquire what was going on and found they were trying to charge the pensioner £180 for work which did not need doing.

The men drove off in a van but the officers noted down its details and the force will be making up follow-up enquiries.

Coventry Police tweeted: “Sam and Amy undoubtedly prevented an elderly lady being taken advantage of.

“They ensured she was okay before continuing their rounds.

“Caring, community policing at its best blue heart.”
