There’s been understandable public concern about multi-million-pound city taxpayer investment in Coombe Abbey Hotel since we broke news last year of the council’s £11million buy-out.
Now another near £2million in council taxpayer loans is being made available to the expensive luxury hotel where a stay is outside the budget of most Coventrians, who pay more in Council Tax bills for much less amid cuts.
The history of the grade 1 listed venue – once publicly owned and bailed out in 2013 – suggests the investment is an ongoing risk.
A council cabinet agenda report on its website fails to outline to the public how their latest loans of up to £1.95million would be spent.
