EDITOR'S COMMENT: Coventry's latest plan for cuts and council tax rise

Les Reid 24th Nov, 2018

Coventry residents face another hike in their council tax bills next year – even though they are getting fewer services.

Some services for the young, old and needy have already been cut in recent years – from children’s centres to transport to schools for the disabled.

This week comes more warnings from the council’s Labour leaders of further government funding cuts to council coffers, alongside growing demand for services, including child protection, elderly care and temporarily housing the homeless.

Public consultation will follow on proposals which fall short of presenting a complete picture of precisely how the axe would fall.
