ENGLAND women’s rugby internationals Amy Cokayne and Charlotte Pearce have helped to launch a rugby in the community scheme for young children in Coventry and Warwickshire.

They were at the launch of ‘Didi Rugby South Warwickshire’ in Kenilworth on Sunday.

On Saturdays, the Didi team will also deliver sessions at St Martin in the Fields Church Hall, Finham, Coventry.

The 40-minute sessions of ‘Didi Rugby’ are aimed at tots as young as 18 months to three years. There are separate sessions for three to four years, and four to six.

Charlotte Pearce said: “It was great fun and the children really got involved and learned a lot. I thoroughly recommend these classes to anyone with young children.”

Amy Cokayne, the current England hooker, added: ” This was brilliant for the children and their development. I am of the opinion that all children need to move around more and become more resilient.”

The emphasis is on fun, confidence and activity through lots of games. The children run around, developing the skills of balance, coordination, spatial awareness and teamwork.

The sessions will continue at The Kenilworth Community Centre, Abbey End car park, Abbey End, Kenilworth town centre, on Sundays from 9am.
