Exhibition that takes an honest look at homelessness now at new University of Warwick building

AN ART project exploring homelessness in Coventry is being displayed at the University of Warwick’s new Faculty of Arts Building.

A group of 10 people who have experienced homelessness joined visitors, academics and charity partners to celebrate the new photography exhibition ‘Constellations of HOME’.

The exhibition will be on display until Thursday, October 27 and features the group’s reflections on their experiences.

It also includes artefacts and photos chosen and co-curated by those taking part alongside assisted self-portraits.

The display is part of Resonate, a year-long programme of interactive events designed to showcase the work of the university and its staff.

Those participating were from the Agency Photography Group and worked alongside Coventry University’s Associate Professor of Photography in the Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities, Anthony Luvera among others to complete the project.

Last October, Anthony launched the ‘Agency’ exhibition as part of the HOME: Arts and Homelessness Festival during Coventry’s City of Culture year, and the group that worked with him have continued to meet regularly.

Tracy Villers, who is a member of the Agency photography group and has experienced homelessness in Coventry, said:

“It’s wonderful to see our work in what is for most of us our home city.

“It’s been a big commitment from everyone involved and we should all be really proud.

“It’s important that we have this platform to engage with the public and get them to think about what home means, and I think the more we interact and educate the better.”

Anthony Luvera added: “So many good things have come off the back of this partnership since being established a year ago, and it’s inspiring to see the results on show here at the university.

“We hope the exhibition prompts questions and helps to build a dialogue around homelessness, and how people can engage with it.”
