Fabulous Christmas performance from Coventry children at Cathedral

Coventry Editorial 19th Dec, 2022   0

IT was beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Coventry Cathedral as more than 600 students from 25 primary schools performed the Nutcracker.

The performance was to celebrate the ‘Create and Dance’ programme, which was run by the Coventry Cultural Education Partnership (CCEP) and the Royal Opera House and offers creative learning for primary and secondary schools across England.

Children of all abilities had the chance to perform at the Cathedral where they had the chance to showcase their talents.

The Coventry ‘Create and Dance’ programme, which began in 2019, received an early Christmas gift recently when they became a Pearson National Teaching Award Gold winner.

The pandemic disrupted the programme, but virtual sessions were still held so children could develop their skills.

Coventry Cultural Education Partnership Chair, Sarah Worth said: “The performances were brilliant and I could see how much the children enjoyed themselves.

“We have been working with the Royal Opera House on the project and it’s been an incredible opportunity for both the teachers and the students.

“You could really see the energy that was brought to the project through the performances of the Nutcracker from the schools and how this will benefit the children when working together in the classroom in the future.”
