COVENTRY residents have lodged fewer complaints over their bins, Coventry City Council has said.

The council’s complaints log showed concerns raised from September 2018 to September 2019 numbered 530  about the waste and recycling service.

The number for the same period the year prior was 606, a 13 per cent reduction in complaints.

In a statement to councillors, Coventry City Council said: ‘our waste and recycling service in Coventry empty around 900,000 bins every month, collecting 3,000 tonnes of waste, showing 0.013 per cent of service users having registered a formal complaint in the last 12 months.’

Coun Patricia Hetherton, Cabinet Member for City services, said: “I’m pleased to see that our waste and recycling team have received less complaints this year.

“We know bin collections are a hot topic for local people and we understand the service still has room for improvement.  However, this fall in complaints shows we’re moving in the right direction and is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our crews over the last 12 months.”

The council added: ‘As outlined in the Council Plan, One Coventry, the Council remain committed to making Coventry an attractive, cleaner and greener city through supporting residents to reduce, reuse and recycle their waste.

‘As part of this commitment, the Council recently approved the creation of a Materials Recycling Facility to be built in Coventry. This facility will allow the Council to raise recycling rates across the city and reduce the miles driven by bin lorries.’

Coun Hetherton continued: “As we outlined in the One Coventry plan, making Coventry attractive, cleaner and greener is a key aim of ours.

“The facility is going to play a big part in helping us to improve our recycling service and make this city as environmentally friendly as it can be.”
