THE FAMILY of a Coventry man who died following a collision on the M42 has said he will be missed by family, friends, neighbours and members of the community, in a touching tribute.
Raymond ‘Ray’ Goode, aged 84, who lived in both Coventry and Spain, died following an accident on the motorway on Saturday August 19.
The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway, near to junction 10 in Staffordshire.
Ray’s wife Jane was injured in the collision and continues to recover in hospital.
A family statement said: “Ray was born in Coventry where he spent his early life before joining the army and serving in Egypt and Korea. He was an engineer at Unbrako for many years and represented the company in Japan in 1970 where he spent six months working.
“Ray later moved to Atherstone where he and Jane ran a local hairdressing business and were very much part of the local community.”
Ray and Jane retired to Spain in 2005, splitting their time between sunny climes and Coventry. Together, they enjoyed travelling, and Ray, a keen wildlife photographer, made numerous visits to Kruger Park in South Africa.
His family added: “Ray was a wonderful, loving and caring husband. He will be missed by his family, friends, neighbours and members of the community.
“We would like to thank everyone for their kind words.”
A 36 year-old man from Birmingham who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the incident has been released under investigation.
