WEST Midlands Fire Service believe a fire that broke out on the ground floor of a three-storey disused hotel in Allesley on Bank Holiday Monday was started deliberately.

Four engines from Coventry, Canley and Foleshill fire stations initially responded to reports of smoke coming from the Birmingham Road building at around 1.10pm on Monday.

They were supported by crews from Sheldon, Hay Mills and Ward End fire stations bringing the total number of firefighters to 33.

Crews had extinguished the fire by 2.15pm before conducting a full search to confirm there was no one inside.

Birmingham Road was closed while firefighters dealt with the operations but has since reopened, with the fire service leaving the scene at around 3.10pm.
