Coventry Editorial 25th Jan, 2023 Updated: 25th Jan, 2023   0

A SEVERE fire broke out last night in a two-storey flat above shops on Jubilee Crescent in Radford.

West Midlands Fire Service responded to the blaze at 9.26pm, with 10 fire engines and 50 firefighters attending along with a hydraulic aerial platform at its height.

Crews from fire stations in Coventry, Solihull and Birmingham faced challenges during the operation, including the loft collapsing into the first floor.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels and main jets to bring the fire under control.

A local library was opened by Coventry city council to provide temporary shelter for residents displaced from several flats, and a structural engineer will be sent to the scene today.

Resources at the scene were scaled down to one fire engine this morning.
