Firm reveals regions ruff-est misconceptions about dogs

A PET food and wellbeing company has revealed the biggest misconceptions about dogs in the West Midlands.

According to research from Bella and Duke, the Rottweiler was voted the scariest dog breed in the region.

Only five per cent of people quizzed said they felt the breed was friendly.

Labrador was voted the friendliest (by 38 per cent of people) and German shepherds were considered the most loyal (they received a winning score of 33 per cent).

Jack Russell terriers lived up to their reputation with 24 per cent voting them the ‘loudest dog’ and, with just one per cent of the votes in that category, golden retrievers were considered the quietest.

Almost half (44 per cent) of people wrongly felt greyhounds needed a lot of excercise whereas, in reality, they are not overly energetic and need just an hour of daily exercise with a couple of quick runs, rather than miles of walking.

When asked about cats, more than a third of people (34 per cent) felt their four-legged feline friends looked after themselves and a quarter felt their moggies preferred to be by themselves.

When it comes to the least family friendly, Rottweilers (28 per cent), Staffordshire Bull Terriers (17 per cent) and Mastiffs (21 per cent) were also voted the least.

To bring these pet misconceptions to life, Bella and Duke has worked with their customers Michelle Kellichan, Scott Anderson, Lisa Twentyman, Kelle Tomlinson and Angela Easton to show their pets doing the opposite from what they are expected to do.

These include Staffy Hank cuddling up to his owner, Rottweiler Loki enjoying a peaceful walk in the park with his Chihuahua friend Taiyo and Finn the Greyhound taking a snooze.

The firm was setting about dispelling myths about its popular raw pet food when it decided to take on some other misconceptions about certain breeds.
