COVENTRY’S first Bands in the Park event of 2016 will take place this weekend (June 26) as City of Coventry Corps of Drums will be entertaining visitors in the War Memorial Park from 2pm.

Sunday will mark the first in the ever popular series of events that the Council have running throughout the summer in the city’s parks and open spaces – all free of charge.

All events throughout the summer will take place from 2pm until 3.30pm with a variety of music genres available across the coming months.

Karen Aspin, Coventry City Council events project manager said: “We are set to have some fantastic local talent performing in our lovely parks.

“There will be a great mix of music on most Sunday afternoons throughout the summer and I am sure the events will be as popular as always.

“We just need a bit of sunshine so people can bring a picnic and enjoy the music and of course the great surroundings that our parks have to offer.”

Councillor Abdul Khan, cabinet member for culture, leisure, sport, parks and events added: “These events highlight the fantastic parks and open spaces we have in the city and are a superb setting for these great family events.

“With a good range of music and plenty to do in the parks either side of the events it is a lovely way to spend Sunday afternoons and all for free.”

There are 10 events in the series this year, starting in the War Memorial Park and continuing throughout the summer months until the final event takes place in conjunction with the Heritage Open Days on Sunday September 11.
