A FOOTBALL-golf course will be opening at Coventry’s War Memorial Park this weekend.
The council has hailed its arrival as it aims to get people active as part of Coventry’s celebrations for its year as European City of Sport.
Opening on Saturday, June 8, Footgolf is a combination of football and golf as participants aim to kick a ball into the hole in the fewest possible attempts.
The course is on the old pitch and putt site and has been hailed by the council as an ideal venue to celebrate family events, birthdays, work outings and children’s birthday parties.
Local football, golf or sporting clubs will also be encouraged to make use of the new facility and make it a regular fixture in their social calendar.
Cabinet member for parks Councillor Abdul Khan said: “We’re looking at Footgolf attracting additional numbers and footfall into the park with it being the only such facility in Coventry.
“As a council we’ve had to take a look at the current usage of all our facilities and the bottom line is that users of the current pitch and putt course in the park has been steadily declining.
“On that basis, we need to look to generate more income to make the facility more financially viable.
“We want to encourage people to come along, have a game, enjoy some exercise whilst having fun and make the most of all the facilities the park has to offer.”
The new site operators say equipment is provided, all skill levels are welcome and there is no need to book.
Players can play nine or eighteen holes and there’ll be discounted prices for under 16s.
The full 18 holes costs £6.50 – full price adult / £3.25 for concessions and juniors (under 16s)
And 9 holes is £4.50 and £2 – full price adult / £3.25 for concessions and juniors (under 16s)
